Arguing on the internet, everyone's favorite pastime! But unfortunately, some people don't do it very well - or at least they could do it better. You owe it to them (and yourself!) to help them out and make their claims and/or arguments less fallacious. In doing so, you'll increase the quality of discourse between the both of you, perhaps even helping you finally figure out DEEP QUESTIONS like "WHAT IS LOVE" and "WHY IS SRIRACHA SO DANG TASTY." Educate yourself and your fellow internet commenters in this week's Idea Channel episode.

GDP is like a speedometer: it tells you whether your economy is going faster or slower. As in cars, a speedometer is useful but doesn’t tell you everything you want to know. For example, it won’t tell you whether you are overheating, or about to run out of fuel.

Fluid power is an efficient way to move energy without mechanical chains, bolts, or levers. The physics of fluids, components, troubleshooting, and design application for hydraulic and pneumatic systems are covered in this class. This class will introduce the student to both hydraulic and pneumatic components. They will build machines using these components and will be able to troubleshoot using a print to find a fault condition. After completing this course, the student will be qualified to: Design fluid power and electrical ladder circuits using a design / simulator software application. Recognize pneumatic and hydraulic components based on physical appearance and functionality. Explain how fluid power components function by identifying the ISO symbol on hydraulic and pneumatic system schematics. Analyze a machine that has a faulty condition, identify the problem, and repair the faulty condition. Redesign fluid power applications in a machine so that it will operate safely for the machine and the operator. Explain the sequence of operation by analyzing the circuit schematic.

Never before have strategic leaders been confronted with so much overwhelming change. The traditional approach is to teach the leader or leaders how to direct or control the organizations' reaction on a monthly, weekly, or even daily basis. This approach is stressful and overwhelming for executive leaders, makes middle managers feel torn between honoring their senior leaders and listening to the demands of front line employees, and is alienating for front line employees.

Foundations of Epidemiology

This book is intended to provide a basic introduction to epidemiologic methods and epidemiologic thinking. After reading this book, you should be able to read an epidemiologic study, understand what the authors did and why, and identify what they found. You will also have the tools to assess the quality of that study—how good is the evidence? What are potential sources of bias, and how might those have affected the results? This book will not teach you enough to be able to design and conduct your own epidemiologic studies—that level of understanding requires several years of specialized training. However, being able to read and understand the scientific literature about human health will allow you to apply that understanding to your own work in a nuanced, sophisticated way.
